Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Campus Students For Christ based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
The One, Triune God
We believe in One God who is the eternal creator and sustainer of creation, who is immutable, simple, personal, perfectly loving, all-powerful, and all knowing. We believe that because of God’s goodness, God created humankind and all of creation for a loving relationship with God, for God’s glory and for our good. We believe that in scripture the One God is revealed as one divine nature subsisting as three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. -Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29 & 32; Ephesians 4:6; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Genesis 1:1; Job 38:1-30; Hebrews 11:3
God the Father
We believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. Theologians use the following language from scripture to try and understand how the Father is the same God, yet distinct from the Son and the Spirit. From God the Father the Son is begotten (John 1:14, 3:16) and the Spirit proceeds (John 15:26). God the Father is neither begotten nor proceeds from anything. The relationships between the Persons of the Trinity are eternal and do not imply any hierarchy or difference in time, power, glory, or essence.

-Ephesians 4:6; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Matthew 6:9; Isaiah 64:7; Genesis 1:1; Revelation 4:11; John 1:3
God the Son: Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus is truly God and truly man, having two natures united in one divine person without confusion, mixture, separation, or division. Each nature retains its own attributes. God’s love for us is such that in the incarnation, Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a perfect life among us, was crucified, dead and buried, rose on the third day, ascended to heaven, and will come again in glory and judgment. In Christ alone is salvation and atonement found for humankind.

God the Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father as very God from very God, co-eternal and co-equal with the Father and with the Son. Christian believers receive the gift of the Holy Spirit normally upon baptism for the transformation of their lives. The Spirit convicts of sin and moves people to repentance. The Spirit seals us in Christ. It is by the grace of the Holy Spirit that the church, both corporately and individually, is given gifts for ministry and personal edification even unto today. It is through the Spirit indwelling us and being present in the church that we are united as believers in the life of Christ. It was through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that the prophets spoke of the coming Messiah.

The Bible
We believe that the bible is God’s authoritative revelation to mankind for the benefit of all creation. The bible consists of sixty-six books which were written on various continents by numerous authors over the course of roughly 1,500 years. Nonetheless, the bible is a collective whole. It is inspired, authored, and guaranteed by God Himself. We believe that the Old and New Testaments are not separate works but are instead the one progressive revelation with Jesus Christ as the interpretive key for understanding both. Contained within the bounds of scripture is everything that humankind needs to understand true reality and salvation. We do not believe scripture is at odds with scientific investigation nor necessarily at odds with specific scientific theories, but we do believe the Bible stands alone as the authoritative word of God for the beatitude of humanity.

Human Beings
We believe that human beings, along with the rest of creation, were made very good. We are the high point of God’s creation as we were made in His image and in His likeness. In the beginning, we not only reflected God’s nature as image bearers, but we were also capable of growing in God’s character (likeness). The purpose of human beings was and is to know, enjoy, and glorify their creator. However, in their free will, human beings chose to usurp God’s place when tempted by Satan in the Garden of Eden. Because of this free choice, human nature was corrupted, the ability to pursue God’s character was lost; human beings became less than what they were made for, and humans were left in a state of fallenness, unable to redeem themselves.

Salvation
In His love, God did not simply abandon humans to their own suffering with no way of restoration but sought them out and gave Himself up for them. We believe that Jesus Christ died as the propitiation for the sins of the world, according to the Scriptures (Romans 3:25; 5:8; Hebrews 2:17; 4:15–16; 9:22: 1 John 3:5; 4:10; 2 Corinthians 5:14–21; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 22) and that all who believe in and receive Jesus Christ by faith are born again by the Holy Spirit, thereby becoming children of God and heirs of eternal life. Through faith, all believers are justified on the basis of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. We acknowledge that salvation is a continuing relationship of faith, love, and joyful submission to the One creator, sustainer, and redeemer. In Ephesians 2:8-10 Paul says, “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (New American Standard Bible).

Baptism
We believe that baptism is the Christian mystery whereby God unites believers to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is both a declaration by the individual believer and the work of God whereby we receive forgiveness of sins, are initiated into the new covenant with Christ and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. There is nothing magical about the ritual and there are no specific instructions on the details of the ritual, so there is freedom in Christian practice. However, baptism, when possible, should normally be done with believers through immersion. While we believe that believer’s baptism by immersion is part of the normal process of salvation for humankind, it is only by God’s good pleasure that anyone is saved. What is clear is that baptism is a command, and that God normally chooses to act through baptism to mysteriously unite believers to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Lord's Supper
The Lord’s supper is a remembrance, celebration, and participation in the New Covenant of Christ’s blood. In it, Christians declare Christ’s death until His return and they fellowship in faith as one body through one bread and by the one Spirit who unites all in the one sacrifice of Christ. In this Christian mystery Christ is truly present, and the Spirit is active in the hearts of believers who receive this mystery. While we deny that the elements of bread and wine are physically changed into the body and blood of Christ, we do affirm that there is a real union between God and man in the sacrament that is more than merely psychological or mental; it is a mysterious union instituted by Jesus Christ Himself.

Judgement and the Last Things
We believe and affirm the real and expected return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While we do not make doctrinal statements about the order or timing of the events of the 2nd coming, we affirm that certain things will happen related to this long-awaited era. We affirm that there will be a resurrection of all humans. We affirm there will be a judgment. We affirm that sin and death and Satan will be done away with forever. We affirm that those who are saved will be with God for eternity and that those who are not saved will be apart from God for eternity. Those who are saved will live in peace and paradise with Jesus among them as their God and King. We affirm that the Christian duty in this life is not idle speculation about the specific details and times of the coming day but is preparation for the coming day.
